Understanding how the systems of air, water, ice, and geology interact to produce the Martian environment are the first step into creating in our exploration of Mars. The 2001 Mars Odyssey, Mars Exploration Rovers, Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, and the Mars Phoenix Lander sought to seek signs of life and follow the water. Curiosity rover mark a transition between the themes of "Follow the Water" and "Seek Signs of Life." In addition to landing in a place with past evidence of water, the Curiosity rover is seeking evidence of organic chemical building blocks of life.
